RESEARCH PROFILE

Ömür Arslan is currently a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and is affiliated with the Dynamics and Control group. His current research focuses on the algorithmic foundations of robotics. His research goal is to integrate perception, control, and learning in the design of provably correct safe adaptive motion planning algorithms for robots operating around people. In addition to his research on safe autonomous mobility, he also conducts research on estimation and control in mobile sensor networks for active information gathering. Broadly, his research interests include robotics, motion planning, dynamical systems, control theory, sensor networks, optimization, machine learning and machine perception.

Robots offer a unique capability – autonomous mobility – that no other technology can provide. My research focuses on the unique challenge – safe autonomy –  of robots that share the same space with people.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Ömür Arslan received his Ph.D. degree in electrical and systems engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA, in 2016 and his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical and electronics engineering from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2007 and from Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2009, respectively.
