RESEARCH PROFILE
Paul Vrancken joined the Eindhoven University of Technology in January 2020 as university lecturer in the sections Control Systems Technology and Dynamics & Controls. Vrancken's main goal is to enthuse students for Mechanical Design. He is doing this by teaching and improving the courses Design Principles and Applications of Design Principles, and by supervising master students and PDEng students during their graduation projects, all related to Mechanical Design. Moreover various student teams ask him for advise for their challenging projects.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Paul Vrancken received his MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering Cum Laude from professor Wim van der Hoek in 1983 at the Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands. The graduation project was the design of an extremely accurate measuring device for a research group from the Department of Electrical Engineering. After graduation Vrancken worked during 32 years as R&D manager for a small, but very innovative company specialised in road maintenance techniques (Klaruw B.V., Tilburg). By doing fundamental research, and combining the outcome of this research with Design Principles this small company was able to introduce many innovative maintenance techniques and the unique equipment needed to apply these techniques. Due to the very specific knowledge Klaruw was able to successfully compete with the large contractors in the road maintenance business. Klaruw was the world's leading company in retexturing techniques.
After a short period as R&D manager at Tobroco (Oisterwijk, The Netherlands) Vrancken was lecturer at the Academy for Mechanical Engineering at Avans University of Applied Science in Breda for three years. Since January 2020 Vrancken is 'back on the old nest' as the successor of Nick Rosielle in the Constructions and Mechanism group (Mechanical Design) of the Eindhoven University of Technology.
