Phani is currently a Ph.D. candidate working with the research group of Prof. dr. Jan de Boer in the BioInterface Science group. He joined the group as he got interested with the interdisciplinary approach of the working group where his research focus is on performing High throughput screening of different micro topographies made of unique biomaterials and see their effect on different cellular functions. This is done to address the effect of fibrosis and other factors on Glaucoma shunt devices implanted in patients suffering from Glaucoma.

Phanikrishna Sudarsanam hails from the southern part of India where he did his B.Tech in Biotechnology at Jawaharlal Nehru University of Technology (JNTU) in 2011. During his Bachelor’s, he worked on strain improvement of biocontrol agents in improving the crop yields to replace conventional pesticides which are harmful to the environment. He then got training under Department of Biotechnology (DBT), India where he worked on the evaluation of natural extracts for phytochemicals that have antibacterial and anti-cancerous activity. He moved to Germany to do his M.Sc. in Biomedical technologies at the University of Tuebingen. During this time, he focused his work on implants and High throughput screenings (HTS) where he worked on projects “Reprogramming of fibroblasts into cardiomyocytes” and “Evaluation of small molecules from HTS for antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria”.
