Roderick Tas is a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Self-Organizing Soft Matter at TU/e department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. He combines biology, biochemistry and biophysics to develop single molecule microscopy approaches to study complex biological assemblies at the molecular level. His research at the TU/e aims to elucidate the biophysical principles that underly the activity of antifreeze proteins which protect many species from freezing in extremely cold conditions. 


Roderick Tas studied Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences at Utrecht University, where he also obtained his PhD in Biophysics under supervision of Prof. Lukas Kapitein in 2019. His PhD thesis focused on how neuronal cytoskeleton architecture directly affects selective transport in neurons. Additionally, during his PhD he received training at the marine biological laboratory (Woods Hole, MA) in the Physiology course. As of May 2019 he started as a postdoctoral researcher in the Self-Organizing Soft Matter group of Prof. Ilja Voets at the Institute of Complex Molecular Systems at TU/e.
