RESEARCH PROFILE

Thijs Hazenberg is a Doctoral Candidate at the Power and Flow group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He researches numerical techniques for the simulation of plasma-assisted combustion. Plasma can be used to support a flame in a fuel-lean mixture. These lean flames provide opportunities for emission reduction in combustion applications.

Reliable numerical methods are important for exploring design boundaries.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Thijs Hazenberg obtained his master's degree at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 2019.  As part of the master's program, he did his internship at Rolls-Royce Deutschland, where he worked on the development of fuel injectors of aerospace engines. Afterward, he started his graduation project under the supervision of Jeroen van Oijen. His master thesis is about model development for metal flames. This work was awarded the NVV combustion award for the best master thesis in the field of combustion. Directly after graduation, Thijs joined the Power and Flow group as a Doctoral Candidate. In this position, he is now working on model development for plasma-assisted combustion.
