RESEARCH PROFILE

Willem-Jan Lamers (1982) is a passionate technology entrepreneur, husband and father of 2 daughters. He is driven by curiosity and a deep desire to build companies from scratch which develop innovative products that matter. With a special interest in robotics, computer vision, artificial intelligence and perception, building a smart, motivated team and finding the perfect product-market fit is his ultimate reward. Within the DSD research group he has the role of Knowledge Valorization Officer where he helps researchers, students, and other people connected to the TU/e bringing their research and other great ideas to market. Whether it be as a spin-off, start-up, knowledge transfer to the industry, or via other creative valorization ways, he it there to help. With his background in mechanical engineering and almost 15 years of experience as an entrepreneur, he knows how to bring an idea to life. Over the past 10 years he has built his previous startup Accerion from concept to a successful company in the mobile robotics sensor space. The learnings on funding, complex sales, hardware product development, intellectual property and building great teams will be valuable for those considering going this route. There are so many smart people with great ideas on the TU/e, and those ideas deserve to be brought out there. His mission is to help, support and coach those that want to let their research, findings and ideas flourish in industry.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Willem-Jan Lamers obtained his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering Science at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 2008 in the field of vehicle dynamics under the supervision of Igo Besselink and prof. Henk Nijmeijer. He obtained his bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering at Fontys University of Applied Sciences Venlo in 2004 (cum laude).
