Thursday 14 December, the Strategic Area Energy hosted its first TU/e alumni event, intended for those who studied at TU/e and are working within the energy sector today. No less than eight different faculties and over thirty different “years” were represented during the event. The aim was to build a network among our energy alumni, inform participants about TU/e current research and connect former and current students.
The day started with lab tours at five different locations, among which were the Future Fuels Lab from Mechanical Engineering, Solar Lab from Applied Physics, Fusion Energy research facilities at DIFFER, SolarBEAT research facility and the wind tunnel, which hosted its official opening the very same day. The tours gave the participants an exclusive insight in the current research facilities at the TU/e.
The lab tours were followed by a reception at DIFFER and several presentations from alumni, current students and researchers. It combined fundamental research from the researchers of DIFFER and TU/e with applied transition solutions as illustrated by the presentation from our alumni, working in environments as diverse as a social housing association, a smart changing start-up or Shell.
The day ended with an walking dinner including a meet-and-greet with a selection of TU/e students teams with energy related topics (such as Team Casa, Team Solid and Team FAST). There was plenty of opportunity to share contacts, experiences and ideas. Titus Kervezee (Team Energy) reflects: “It was very interesting to meet former TU/e students and hear what they have become after leaving this University, besides that many people very enthusiast about our initiatives , which gives us great motivation to continue what we are doing”.
The Strategic Area Energy would like to thank all participants for their contribution to the event. We look back upon a very successful first edition and we hope to see you next year!
