Feasibility and Proof of Concept Funding

Introduction

NWO Take Off and Demonstrator Grants are great instruments to help researchers to further explore the commercialization route for a technical invention. This workshop is about the specific funding conditions and the application process of NWO Take Off and Demonstrator Grants and helps researchers choose the most appropriate for their specific situation.

General

Take Off grants are aimed specifically to support the founding of spin-off companies and typically are the first sources of funding to help get an academic spin-off company of the grounds. A Take Off 1 Feasibility Study allows researchers to explore the potential for a spin-off company and prepare an initial business plan. If successful, the spin-off company can then subsequently apply for a Take Off 2 Early Stage Funding grant to build their business and execute the business plan.

Demonstrator grants have a different aim and allow researchers to further validate a technology invention by building a demonstrator version that can be used to demonstrate to a prospective third party licensee the value of the technology in a certain field of application. In parallel with the technical developments the aim is to explore the licensing of the technology to a company that will eventually commercialize the technology and develop this into a product or service that can be put onto the market.
