Dies Natalis

Dies Natalis, Thursday 20 April 2017

On 20 April 2017, we celebrated the foundation of the University (61 years ago).

The theme of the Dies Natalis was ‘Will the university get to 2040?’. A number of speakers highlighted future trends from their particular perspectives.
•    Rector Magnificus Bert van der Zwaan of the University of Utrecht
•    Former President Patrick Aebischer of École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland
•    Jan Mengelers, President of the Executive Board of Eindhoven University of Technology

Associate Professor in Physical Chemistry Dr. Ilja Voets of Eindhoven University of Technology presented some insight into her research.

During the ceremony rector magnificus Frank Baaijens, on behalf of TU/e, presented an honorary doctorate to professor Lars Arge of Aarhus University, Denmark.

The TU/e celebrates Dies Natalis as an academic ceremony, where the Rector or his deputy speeches. Later on in the festivities, other professors are invited to speech as well. The ceremony also hosts a musical program while dignitaries (academic and industrial relations of the university) get a place on the front row. Each year an honorary doctorate will be conferred.
