Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW)

Academy Professor

The Academy Professor program of the KNAW was founded by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and is geared to excellent professors that are part of the absolute scientific elite. The aim of the program is to free up these professors for top quality research as to educate researchers.

Members of the KNAW

The KNAW has some 500 members that are part of the Department of Literature or Physics. Members are nominated for life and after they reach the age of 65 become dormant members.

The Young Academy:

The Young Academy of the KNAW is a dynamic, innovative platform of Young top scientists with a vision of science and scientific policy. The Young Academy organizes inspiring activities for various target groups in the field of interdisciplinarity, scientific policy, and science and society. The Young Academy has fifty members aged between 25 and 45 nominated less than ten years after receiving their doctorates. Together they represent a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines and work at Dutch universities and many research institutes.

NWO / STW

Spinoza laureates (NWO)

Spinoza award
The Spinoza award is the highest Dutch distinction in science and only those Dutch researchers that are part of the scientific elite are eligible. The award was first made in 1995.

Simon Stevin Masters and Companions (STW)

The Simon Stevin Master is an honorary title awarded since 1998 by the STW Technology Association to very prominent engineering scientific researchers at Dutch universities and para-university institutes. This largest Dutch award in technology is given to the best engineering-scientific researchers that have submitted research applications to STW.

Veni, Vidi, Vici laureates (NWO)

The Innovation Stimulus Program established by NWO and KNAW along with the universities in 2000 aims to give innovating research an added stimulus. The Innovation Stimulus is a personalized incentive to talented, creative researchers to undertake research of their choice and to promote the move to scientific research institutions.
