Dr. Pollak, born in Vienna on 13 December 1927, is manager of the Mathematics and Statistics Research Center of Bell Telephone Laboratories at Murray Hill (USA). Dr. Pollak receives an honorary doctorate for his contribution to shaping education in applied mathematics, especially for non-mathematicians, his efforts to apply mathematics in industry, thereby contributing substantially to the recognizability of industrial mathematics, his efforts in shaping mathematics education in developing countries and his pioneering contributions to mathematical science, notably in the fields of analysis and discrete mathematics.
Honorary tutor is Prof.dr. N.G. de Bruijn, professor of mathematics at the TH Eindhoven.
