Integrity

TU/e places great importance on a number of core values. The scientific independence and integrity of scientific staff are key priorities. TU/e also highly values transparency and integrity in business relationships. As an organization, we regard it as important for staff and students to act with integrity in the areas of research, knowledge transfer and education. This is not self‑evident, and must be promoted actively. That is why at TU/e we commit ourselves to codes of conduct and regulations that provide guidance for working and studying at our university.

Codes of conduct and regulations

The nationally agreed codes of conduct and TU/e regulations shown below are intended to anchor our core values and the way we behave towards each other within our university in the areas of both education and research.

Confidential advisors are available in the three above areas. They act as contact persons, in particular for TU/e staff and students who are faced with (or suspect) misconduct, inappropriate behavior or conflicts, and can help in reaching a solution or submitting a formal complaint.

Ancillary activities

At TU/e agreements have been made with full professors and other staff about informing management regarding ancillary activities. On the basis of  clause 1.14 of the Netherlands Universities CLA,  staff is obliged to officially report ancillary activities. In addition to this national regulation TU/e also has a TU/e specific agreement for her staff in place.

Additional agreements have been made with the Minister of Education, Culture and Science about the transparency of ancillary activities undertaken by full professors. As a result of this agreement all ancillary activities of TU/e’s full professors are listed on their personal detail page, which can be viewed in the TU/e employee database via ‘Search staff’. Each full professor is fully responsible for his or her data being up-to-date on the employee detail page.
 
TU/e takes the transparency of the ancillary activities in very seriously  en has intensified the supervision on the ancillary activities. On a regular basis we examine the accuracy of the information displayed on the personal detail pages of TU/e staff. Furthermore the topic ancillary activities is a recurring component of the R&O annual reviews.

Code of ethics during organizational changes

The TU/e social statute includes a Code of Ethics that acts as a touchstone for good behavior in mutual relationships (managers, employees, executives, participation bodies, etc). This code acts as a guideline for the interpretation and use of the regulation that applies during organizational changes and also serves as a point of reference for matters, questions and situations for which there are no rules. The Code of Ethics also invites people to voice concerns among each other about (un)desired behavior and manners. The full text of the social statute can be found here.
