Turbulence in two dimensions
2D turbulence has been a pillar of the group's research.
Within the framework of a large FOM programme, laboratory experiments are performed on 2D turbulence in stratified fluids - either decaying or continuously forced. As in other projects, high-resolution numerical simulations play a crucial role here. Aspects that are studied: self-organization, effects of domain boundaries, and dispersion (chaotic advection) properties.
