Ir. B.R. (Birgit) Plantinga

Birgit Plantinga received her master degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2012 in the field of biomedical image analysis.

She then continued as a PhD-student in collaboration with Maastricht University. Her work focusses on the improvement of deep brain stimulation surgery, involving the placement of a small electrode into the brain, in Parkinson’s disease patients. Using ultra-high field (7T) MRI techniques, she investigates the structural and functional connectivity in these patients’ brains, in order to more accurately determine the target location of the electrode.

Her research interests are image analysis, MRI data analysis and Neuro-anatomy.
