Klaas Nicolay is vice-dean and full professor in Biomedical NMR at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Groningen in 1983 with prof. R. Kaptein as supervisor. He was a post-doctoral fellow of the Netherlands Cancer Foundation at Utrecht University from 1983-1986. In 1985, he was a visiting scientist at University of Basel. In 1987, he received a Huygens fellowship from NWO. In 1991, he became the head of the Netherlands in vivo NMR facility at the Bijvoet Center of Utrecht University. In 1998, his group joined the Image Sciences Institute of the University Medical Center Utrecht. In 1999 he was appointed professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology. His present research interests include MR imaging and spectroscopy of biological tissues in vivo and the development of MR tools for the non-invasive characterization of tissue status. Nicolay is a member of the editorial boards of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, Journal of Magnetic Resonance and Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism. He was the chairman of the Scientific Program Committee for the 2004 meeting of the ESMRMB (Copenhagen) and is a member of the SPC's for the 2005 meeting of the ESMRMB (Basle) and Brain 2005 (Amsterdam). Nicolay is the chairman of the studygroup on Lipids and Biomembranes of the Chemical Sciences division of the Netherlands Organization of Scientific Research (NWO). From May 2005, he is a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Scoiety of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine
