Biography
Pim Oomen holds a BSc and MSc in Biomedical Engineering, obtained at the Eindhoven University of Technology under the supervision of prof. Frank Baaijens. During these degrees, he specialized in biomechanics and tissue engineering, and performed parts of his research at Queen Mary University of London and University of Texas at Austin.
Since 2014, he is pursuing a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, under supervision of prof. Carlijn Bouten and dr. Sandra Loerakker. Part of his research has been performed at Stanford University in collaboration with prof. Ellen Kuhl. His PhD research concerns the investigation of growth and remodeling of native and tissue-engineered cardiovascular tissues, with a focus on heart valves. This work is highly relevant for the rational design of engineered cardiovascular tissues, and essential for understanding the physiological and pathological adaptation of native and engineered tissues.
