M. Ümit Arabul is a PhD candidate in the Department of Biomedical Engineering in TU/e. He is a member of the laboratory for photoacoustic and ultrasound (PULS/e Lab, a sub-group of Cardiovascular Biomechanics).

He studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Middle East Technical University (METU), in Ankara. After earning his BSc. degree in 2011, he enrolled Biomedical Engineering masters study at Bogazici University, Istanbul. He did his master project in the Applied Physics Department on ‘Fiber-laser based photoacoustic microscopy (PAM) system development’ project. In  PAM project, he gained experience with the fiber based optical system design and acoustic data acquisition. Upon his graduation, he started to work in FULLPHASE. His research is focused on vulnerability assessment of carotid plaques in humans. His aim is to complete pre-clinical validation of photoacoustic imaging as one of the solutions to vulnerability assessment project as a PhD student.

His current research interests are related to the photoacoustic and ultrasonic imaging of biomedical tissue, image reconstruction and multi-modality imaging.
