Climate4Wood film starts at 10:22
This film presents the Science4Arts research program of NWO for which conservators and scientists collaborate to develop new conservation and preservation strategies for works of art. PhD student Rianne Luimes of the department of the Built Environment is collaborating with the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Delft University of Technology and Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands for one of the six Science4Arts projects: the Climate4Wood project. She is analysing climate induced damage observed in decorated oak wooden panels in furniture and panel paintings by means of experimental tests and numerical modelling. The results of this project will contribute to the understanding of the causes of damage and will help museums to develop sustainable preservation strategies.
