Evert van Loenen is part-time full professor in Smart Lighting in the Department of the Built Environment of the Technical University Eindhoven, and furthermore Principal Scientist in the Human Interaction & Experiences department of Philips Research. He has been involved in Ambient Intelligence research from the start of the field in 1999, more specifically in user centered design, user system interaction, context awareness and experience research. His current research focuses on light and health in the built environment, exploring how environmental factors such as daylight, artificial light, views and sounds impact health and health recovery processes.   Evert started his career with a MSc degree in Technical Physics from the University of Groningen and a PhD from the University of Utrecht on surface science research performed at the FOM institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics. Before joining Philips Research in Eindhoven, he worked at IBM Research in Yorktown Heights as visiting scientist. He managed one of the first and largest European projects in the field of Ambient Intelligence, the ITEA - AMBIENCE project, which was awarded with the 2003 ITEA Achievement Award, holds more than 10 patents and is author/co-author of more than 90 scientific papers.
