Research on Water investigates the development, characterization and application of polymeric membranes in aqueous applications for e.g. water purification and reuse but also process water treatment in the food and diary industry. Strong emphasize is on the valorization of aqueous waste streams, the recovery of nutrients and closing cycles aiming for zero discharge and avoiding waste. The complexity of the feed streams involved makes this approach challenging both in terms of fundamental aspects, membrane development, process considerations and applications. Relevant issues addressed are separation of multi-component mixtures, interactions of the feed components with the membrane, control of structure-properties relationships, performance evaluation and process design and optimization.
