Multiscale Modeling of Gas-Solid Mass Transfer and its Impact on Riser Reactor Performance

 

Introduction

The objective of this project is to perform a comprehensive study into the effects of heterogeneity on the mass transfer in co-currently flowing dense gas-solid suspensions, by a combination of numerical simulations and well-defined experiments. The unique aspect of our approach is that we will study mass transfer by use of two different simulation models at different levels of detail: (i) a fully resolved model, where mass transfer and heterogeneously catalyzed chemical transformations is accounted for at the level of the particle’s surface, and (ii) an unresolved model for larger scale simulations, which requires closures for the effective mass transfer, which will be constructed from the fully resolved data.
