COBRA Colloquium

15 April
15:30 - 16:30
Building Flux Lecture Room 1.02

COBRA COLLOQUIUM: Friday April 15, 2016 at 15:30 – 16:30 in Building Flux, Lecture room 1.02!!!

Speaker: Prof. Stuart Parkin is Director, Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics, Halle and Alexander von Humboldt, Professor, Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg,
IBM Fellow, IBM Research -Almaden,  San Jose, California
Title: Beyond CMOS using the electron’s spin

Abstract: Stuart Parkin will present his vision on the future of nanoelectronics using the electron’s spin.  As an introduction and for further inspiration, you’re invited to watch: !

Biography: Stuart Stephen Papworth Parkin (9 December 1955) is an experimental physicist, IBM Fellow and manager of the magnetoelectronics group at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California.  Since April 1, 2014, Prof. Dr. Stuart Parkin is director at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics in Halle and Alexander von Humboldt Professor at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg.  Prof. Parkin is a pioneer in the science and application of spintronic materials, and has made discoveries into the behavior of thin-film magnetic structures that were critical in enabling recent increases in the data density and capacity of computer hard-disk drives. For these discoveries, he was awarded the 2014 Millennium Technology Prize. In 2008 Parkin received an honorary doctorate at our university, and is a TU/e distinguished professor since then.

After the colloquium (around 16:30) we organize a mini-colloquium in which two COBRA researchers, will give a short presentation about his or her work.

For the Photonic Integration Group:
Speaker: Weiming Yao
Title: High-density high-speed photonic integrated circuits

For the Plasma and Materials Processing Group:
Speaker: Lachlan Black
Title: Surface passivation of InP nanowires by atomic layer deposition

The audience is invited to an informal gathering following the colloquium (around 17:00) at the vide at floor 1 in Building Flux!!!
