Radio Communication encompasses a wide range of research topics, including "cognitive wireless systems and networks" and "channel modeling". the first topic deals with the study of the cognitive capabilities for wireless systems and networks, enabling cross-OSI-layer and network optimization. Naturally, these capabilities reside in components like base stations, smart phones and sensors. The emphasis will be on the lower layers (PHY, MAC) and system/network, but will include considerations on higher layers (routing, application) and link level when necessary. The second topic focuses on deterministic channel modeling needed for the design and performance analysis of new wireless systems and networks that will use smart antennas or MIMO. The developed models are verified and calibrated with measured data from our unique 3-D mobile channel sounder.
