Philips Research is a global organization that helps Philips introduce meaningful innovations that improve people’s lives. We provide technology options for innovations in the area of health and well-being, targeted at both developed and emerging markets. Positioned at the front-end of the innovation process, we work on everything from spotting trends and ideation to proof of concept and -where needed- first-of-a-kind product development.

Description of internship:

Energy harvesting may be used to extend the lifetime or even fully power smart electronic modules. The aim of this practical training is to generate an overview about existing energy harvesting techniques, their technical functionality and limitations. By means of simple demonstrators (hardware) the most interesting solutions will be built and tested in an application environment.

Detailed work packages (duration can vary):

  • WP 1 (2 weeks)
Collecting information/data on energy harvesting techniques, check availability of demonstrator hardware and consider potential application.
  • WP 2 (6 weeks)
Built-up demonstrators, including evaluation & characterization.
  • WP 3 (3 weeks)
Implement most promising energy harvester in demo application and
    investigate life-time performance.
  • WP 4 (1 week)
Summarize the work/results in a short note.
Finally present the work and show the demo to a selected audience.
