Biography

Born in Nov. 4 1987 in Wuhan, China, Chao Zhang is currently a PhD candidate at TU/e in the group of Human-Technology Interactions. Chao did his university education in Wuhan and received a double Bachelor degree in both industrial design (at Huazhong University of Science and Technology) and psychology (at Center China Normal University). In 2010, he came to Eindhoven to study human-technology interactions at TU/e, with the Talent Scholarwhip from the university. In 2012, he received his Master of Science degree with Cum Laude, with a Master thesis on the topic of presense in telecommunication. In 2013, he worked in Knowledge Media Research Center in Tuebingen, Germany, for half a year. He returned back China in 2013 and worked as a user researcher in the IT industry for a year. In March, 2015, he came back to TU/e and started his PhD project on health behavior change and e-coaching in the group of Human-Technology Interaction.

Research profile

Chao has a broad interest in the research field of human-technology interactions. During his Master thesis project, he investigated how experience with telecommunication technologies changes the psychological feeling of presnece, through a field experiment with a judgment task. In his current PhD work, he's focusing on bridging the fields of decision making and health behavior change. Highlights of projects include developing computational models for habit formation, and tracking self-control process with movement tracking techniques. He's also interested in exploring new technologies for psychological research and in research methdos and statistics. He has expertise in building apps for field data collection and in multilevel modeling for psychological data.
