Karena Kalmbach holds a tenure track position in History of Technology at the Technical University of Eindhoven (TU/e). Before joining the Technology, Innovation and Society division of TU/e, she was a postdoctoral fellow with the Environmental Policy Research Centre of the Freie Universität Berlin, working on an interdisciplinary project on nuclear waste management. Her PhD was awarded by the European University Institute in Florence (Department of History and Civilization), in September 2014, and the title is: 'Meanings of a Disaster: The Contested 'Truth' about Chernobyl. British and French Chernobyl Debates and the Transnationality of Arguments and Actors.' She won the ICOHTEC Book Prize 2015 for this thesis manuscript. Karena Kalmbach is currently the Coordinator of the Nuclear International Research Group (NIRG). Together with her TU/e colleagues Andreas Spahn and Ginevra Sanvitale, she is establishing a new research project on the role of fear as an argument in pro-technology discourses.
