It is not only in soccer and swimming that Eindhoven is successful. Students, too, have shown their sporting prowess. Almost every year the Eindhoven student team finishes in the top three in the Dutch Student Championships. Hardly surprising if you look at the facilities and the number of sports clubs. If raising a glass doesn’t tire you out, then take a look at the students sport center on the TU/e campus. For just €80 you can use all the sports facilities for a whole year. Like the modern fitness center, eleven all-weather tennis courts and indoor swimming pool. In all, nearly a hundred different sports are catered for.
In the IJssportcentrum Eindhoven is the national training rink for ice hockey, a disco rink with music and an outside rink where you can skate for hours and hours. On Tuesday evenings there is a discounted entry price and student card holders can even skate for free.
Eindhoven has 39 sports associations. Whether you row, play soccer, hang-glide, box or play lacrosse: as far as sport goes, you’re in the right place in Eindhoven.
Philips and PSV are a kind of father and son of Eindhoven, appearing together in the Philips Stadium. For €225 you can buy a season ticket entitling you to your own heated grandstand seat. PSV sells a lot of season tickets, so if you want to watch a soccer game now and then, you need to turn up on time. Before buying a ticket, you will need a Club Card that costs €10 (valid for four years), which takes around ten days to come through. You can’t just walk into the soccer temple on the Frederiklaan. Unfortunately, there is no student discount.
De Tongelreep swimming complex on the Antoon Coolenlaan comprises a pool with a wave generator and different chutes aas well as the Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium with a 50-meter swimming pool, a 25-meter diving pool and a four-lane training pool. On Tuesday evenings student discounts apply.
