Jack van Wijk new scientific director Data Science Center Eindhoven
The Executive Board has appointed prof.dr.ir. Jack van Wijk as the new scientific director of the Data Science Center Eindhoven (DSC/e) as of February 1. Jack will succeed prof.dr. Johan Lukkien, who temporarily held the position after the announced departure of prof.dr.ir. Wil van der Aalst to the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) in Aachen.
Jack van Wijk is planning to continue the course that was set by Wil van der Aalst, founder of DSC/e, and Johan Lukkien. Van Wijk: “I intend to further strengthen the collaboration between researchers of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and those of other departments that are connected to DSC/e. Furthermore, I would like to strengthen our cooperation within JADS.” He concludes: “But first I have to thank Wil and Johan for the great work they have realized in the past years.”
Jack van Wijk’s own research focusses on visual analytics, where he has built a strong reputation both in the scientific world as well as in business. Two successful spin-off companies have started from work that was done in his group. He is interested in many applications, which gives him a great overview of the many, many domains of Data Science that are researched at the Eindhoven University of Technology.
