Department of M&CS well represented at SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering
From February 27 to March 3, the next biennial SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering takes place in Atlanta, USA. Five scientists from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science will be giving lectures, among them prof.dr.ir. Barry Koren, dr.ir. Jan ten Thije Boonkamp, and prof.dr. Mikko Karttunen who is invited as a keynote speaker and until recently was full professor at M&CS. Furthermore, prof. Wil Schilders holds a co-chair and was closely involved in organizing the conference.
The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Activity Group on Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) fosters collaboration and interaction among applied mathematicians, computer scientists, domain scientists and engineers in those areas of research related to the theory, development, and use of computational technologies for the solution of important problems in science and engineering. Therefore, among other things, they organize biennial conferences.
With over 1600 participants, the Conference on Computational Science and Engineering is one of the best attended mathematics conferences worldwide. This shows that nowadays CSE is an important field of study. CSE is indispensable for leading edge investigation and engineering design in a vast number of industrial sectors, it contributes to policy and decisions relating to human health, resources, transportation, and defense, and in many new areas such as medicine, the life sciences, management and marketing (e.g. data- and stream mining), and finance, techniques and algorithms from CSE are of growing importance.
The department of Mathematics and Computer Science is proud to be part of and contribute to this influential conference.
