PDEng trainee Bulgaa Enkhtaivan presents Data Integrated Platform for Precision Agriculture

On September 5, 2018 the Precision Farming Practice Center in Reusel, managed by Jacob van den Borne, opened its doors to a large variety of stakeholders who are interested and involved in bringing precision farming to the next level. More than 550 visitors varying from farmers, growers, researchers, and students to governmental staff took the opportunity to learn about the latest technological insights and products that were presented in 45 booths, as well as during a subset of lectures.

Software Engineer Bulgaa Enkhtaivan, who is carrying out a PDEng project in the Applied Data Science Group of prof. Jakob de Vlieg and working closely with Jacob van den Borne in the OPZuid project “Practice Center for Precision Farming”, presented DIPPA: A Data Integration Platform for Precision Agriculture.

Prof. Jakob de Vlieg introduced Bulgaa Enkhtaivan and explained how TU/e is joining forces from all departments to stimulate AgriFoodTech research, also in context of the Wageningen University & Research (WUR) – TU/e cooperation. Of the many AgriFoodTech projects running, the OPZuid project on Precision Farming is a good example of the strong cooperation between the department of Mathematics & Computer Science and the Department of Mechanical Engineering to connect robotics, sensors and data.

In her presentation and poster she explained an architecture design for a data integration platform that can be used for the storage and management of precision farming data. Integrating, managing and analyzing data from remote sensors, satellites can lead to a better understanding of the processes, field characteristics, and management techniques. All this is important for the decision making process in farming.

Bulgaa’s presentation attracted special interest from domain experts and researchers with expertise in analyzing data from different agricultural systems and sensors. 

The platform provides an ability to perform intuitive analyses for making data-driven decisions with better insights of current available data.
