Data-driven critical service systems

By:
prof.dr. Johan van Leeuwaarden, department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Eindhoven University of Technology

Abstract:

The availability of data motivates the construction of mathematical models of flows (customers and providers) passing through service systems such as hospitals.

These models provide insight on potential congestion problems, bottlenecks, and the impact of capacity sizing rules. For example, an important dual goal is to have customers not wait long for service, and to have providers not wait long for customers (high resource efficiency).

More generally, the goal is to improve the design of services based on the analysis of data-driven mathematical models.
