SRETool – A Data-Driven Tool for Software Reliability Engineering
When software is too complex to allow for exhaustive testing, then a data-driven approach using software reliability growth models is widely used to support software release decision processes. The statistical analysis of software reliability growth models is not trivial due to the numerous available models. Moreover, existing software reliability tools do not make full use of state-of-the-art statistical methodology or do not conform to best practices in statistics.
The SRETool that we developed together with the system reliability engineering company Refis useswell-documented state-of-the-art algorithms, is platform independent, encourages users to apply best practices from statistics and can easily be extended to incorporate new models.
The software has been and will be used in several industrial projects, including a new project by the Dutch government on the reliability of the Maeslant storm surge barrier.
