Spatio-Temporal Development of Structure during Flow-Induced Crystallization of Polyolefins
The most common way of manufacturing polymer products is processing via the molten state, for example in injection molding. During processing the material is subjected to high pressures, flow rates and cooling rates. If processing takes place below the thermodynamic melting temperature, the final microstructure of a semi-crystalline polymer product can be strongly affected. Hence, this opens up the possibility to tune mechanical and optical properties by adjusting processing parameters. The goal of this work is predictive modeling of various aspects of flow-induced crystallization.
