Markus Hütter is associate professor (UHD) in mechanics and thermodynamics of materials. He studied Physics at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1999 he received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Materials at the ETH, with Prof. Dr. H. C. Öttinger and Prof. Dr. L. J. Gauckler as his advisors. After a post-doctoral stay at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with Prof. Dr. G. C. Rutledge and Prof. Dr. R. C. Armstrong, he returned to the ETH, where he completed his Habilitation in 2006. In 2010, he joined the Polymer Technology group of Prof. Dr. Ir. Han Meijer at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology.
