Gross misrepresentation by ESC-chapter Aleph causes TU/e to suspend ESC subsidy

The Executive Board suspended the Eindhovens Studentencorps (ESC) subsidy with immediate effect yesterday in view of the very female-unfriendly theme of the Aleph carnival celebrations announced via Facebook.

Executive Board President Jan Mengelers expressed his anger and shock, stressing that the Executive Board takes the issue very seriously and that there will certainly be further consequences for the Eindhoven Student Corps. The suspended financial support concerns the committee officer grants (‘bestuursbeurzen’) the fraternity receives from TU/e.

The board of the ESC and of Dispuut Aleph were summoned yesterday afternoon to report directly to the Executive Board for a very probing conversation. "But it does not stop there," says Mengelers. "The board of Aleph has been suspended, the carnival celebrations canceled and an ESC committee is going to investigate how this could have happened. We are also considering temporarily blocking the ESC from academic ceremonies."
