It is possible for TU/e to apply for "Direct family reunion". This means that TU/e can apply for both you and your family for an MVV, in order to enable your family to travel together with you to the Netherlands.
When you are already in the Netherlands and your family is still in the country of origin you can apply for "family reunion". If you are a "kennismigrant" or "Onderzoeker EU-Richtlijn" this can be done through the Holland Expat Center which takes up to 3 months. This is the so-called "one-stop shop procedure". Right after arrival your family member(s) can collect the residence permit(s) at the Holland Expat Center.
(If you are not a Kennismigrant/Onderzoeker EU-Richtlijn this is, however, not possible through the Holland Expat Center. The procedure to obtain a visa and residence permit takes about 3 months).
You need to meet the following criteria for family reunion:
- The minimum age for both partners is 18, in case you are already married, or living together for at least 6 months and 21, in case you will only form a family (living together) after arrival in the Netherlands.
- Full time TOIO's and PhD students on TU/e pay roll meet the minimum income criteria for family reunion.
- Your contract needs to be valid for at least 6 months (knowledge-migrants/Onderzoekers EU-Richtlijn) and 1 more year (for non-knowledge-migrants).The application needs to be done by your employer.
Fees for family reunion: visa & residence permit € 240 for an adult and € 51 for a minor.

PLEASE DO NOT BOOK A FLIGHT BEFORE YOU HAVE OBTAINED THE VISA FROM THE EMBASSY/CONSULATE GENERAL! THE HR BACK OFFICE INTERNATIONAL CANNOT SPEED UP THE VISA PROCEDURE.
As soon as the visa (MVV) is ready, your family member needs to hand a new passport photo at the Dutch Embassy/Consulate General. This photo will be used for the residence permit. It needs to meet the requirmentents for Dutch passports. Here you can download the requirements. If the photo delivered is not in accordance with the matrix provided, this will cause delay in the application for family reunion. Furthermore, the fingerprints will be taken at the Embassy/Consulate, according the EC law as of January 2014.
Get in Touch Program: for women who accompany their husband/partner to TU/e, we have the so-called "Get in Touch" program available. The program is organized by "Indigo-Wereld", a bureau dedicated to strengthening the connections between people from different cultures. If you are interested in participating in this pleasant and useful program, please contact the HR back office international TU/e: HR-Backoffice_Internationaal@tue.nl
