The benefits of light therapy on depression

November 30, 2021

PhD researcher Emma Visser is conducting research into the beneficial effects of light therapy on depression.

Emma Visser states that the depressive symptoms of people improve significantly and very quickly with this form of therapy. The therapy originates from psychiatry where people are treated with daily morning light exposures of 30 minutes. During therapy people receive a facial light exposure that mimics bright daylight. People can do this at home or in a special clinic. In Eindhoven, the GGzE even has a special LightcafĂ© to give light therapy to people. This setting will be used in the research.

Emma was interviewed on her research which is part of the BioClock consortium.
