RESEARCH PROFILE

Professor Lukas Dekker is a cardiologist at the Catharina Hospital Eindhoven, specialized in diagnosing and treatment of patients with cardiac arrhythmias. He is also involved in several basic research projects; he, for example, supervises an experimental project in Bordeaux, France, about the role of atrial wall stress in the occurrence as well as treatment of atrial fibrillation. He is part-time professor at the departments of Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Lukas Dekker studied medicine in Amsterdam; he finished his cardiology training in 2003 in Amsterdam. In 1996 he finished his PhD about ‘Role of intracellular calcium in ischemic damage and preconditioning in cardiac muscle’ with honours.
From 2008 onwards he works as a cardiologist-electrophysiologist in the Catharina Hospital Eindhoven.
