EngD is not something standard that you would expect from a university environment. In my opinion, it is an unique program, especially if you are looking for a bridge between the academia and industry - and that is what I was looking for at the time of my EngD. Now, years after my graduation, I can say with certainty that the automotive systems design EngD program perfectly provided me with what I was seeking at that time. EngD significantly contributed to my development and helped me become the engineer that I am today. EngD creates an environment where you can take up challenges that in real work conditions would take years for you to gain experience from. From day one of the EngD program you can take up the responsibility of a project lead in the high-tech industry or you can develop your negotiation skills at a negotiation table with a project stakeholder. The program pushes you out of your comfort zone and puts you together with a group of strangers, who have different backgrounds and who came from different countries, in projects where you as a team need to solve real problems faced by the industry. During the program, EngD constantly sharpens your engineering vision and accelerates the change of your mindset – from an engineering graduate’s worldview to a full-fledged system engineer’s way of thinking
