AgriTech

AgriTech is a new, fast growing branch in the Netherlands. To be able to farm at a certain scale, farmers increasingly need information on the exact conditions of their crops. How moist is the soil? Are there pests? And which ones? What plants need (extra) nutrients? In the past ten years, the sector has seen major developments. The enormous amount of data collected in this way not only shows how mother nature works, but also where the farmer can support her. Jacob van den Borne has been working on precision agriculture for years in his potato fields in Reusel.

The province of Noord-Brabant has also recognized the usefulness and necessity of AgriTech. Until 2020, it finances a 4-year program focused on developments in precision farming in which Jacob's company serves as a practical center. Together they have asked a group of TU/e PDEng trainees to help them make the systems more accurate. JADS (Jheronimus Academy of Data Science in Den Bosch), a joint initiative of the TU/e and Tilburg University, is also involved since the assignment involves collecting, interpreting and acting on large amounts of data.

C-MobILE

Every year, 13.000 cyclists in the Netherlands are involved in road accidents. No less than eleven percent of these accidents are caused by collisions with cars, buses and other vehicles. One of the most dangerous junctions for cyclists in Eindhoven is at the Neckerspoel bus station, which at least once a day sees a 'near-accident' between a bus and a cyclist. To improve this situation, the municipality of Eindhoven, research organization TNO, TU/e and MACQ engaged a multidisciplinary group of PDEng trainees from the TU/e to work on the C-MobILE project.

Valeo

No longer a mere pipedream, automated cars are increasingly becoming reality. However, despite all the rapid progress that has been made in recent years, the ultimate goal of fully automated driving - which would allow the driver to sit back, relax and enjoy the environment - is still far-off. This is where Valeo, one of the leading companies in smart mobility, steps in. To gain new ideas based on a different perspective Valeo brought in a group of TU/e PDEng trainees to investigate in one of the core parts of automated driving.

ViNotion

In collaboration with ViNotion, our trainees designed and developed a first version of a demonstrator framework for their video content analysis algorithms allowing their researchers to focus on further developing their algorithms whilst allowing them to easily demonstrate the added value of their algorithms to potential partners.

NXP Semiconductors

In collaboration with the video processing group of NXP, our trainees designed and developed video processing software for TriMedia platforms.

FEI Company

In collaboration with FEI Company, our trainees contributed to the design and development of software for a future version of their Phenomhigh resolution desktop imaging tool that simplifies and accelerates an imaging workflow. It combines the world of optical and electron microscopy with an ultimate resolution of 30 nm, it’s ideal for routine inspection and detailed imaging of materials. Phenom is extremely easy to operate as well, meaning everyone can run it. Research institutes use its capabilities to discover lighter, stronger and safer materials.

CERN

In collaboration with CERN, the European Research Center on Nuclear Energy in Geneva (Switzerland), our trainees contributed to the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid Project (WLCG), which is intended to develop, build and maintain a computing infrastructure for storage and analysis of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) data. Data will be distributed around the globe according to a four-tiered model. A primary backup will be recorded at CERN, the "Tier-0" centre of WLCG. After initial processing, these data will be distributed to a series of Tier-1 centers, large computer centers with sufficient compute and storage capacities as well as round-the-clock support for Grid operations.

TNO

TNO is an independent research organisation that employs some 3,000 specialists and believes in the joint creation of economic and social value. TNO is focussing on transitions or changes in five social themes: Industry; Healthy Living; Defence, Safety & Security; Urbanisation and Energy. Innovation with purpose is what TNO stands for. They develop knowledge not for its own sake, but for practical application.

Our trainees of generation C2014 performed an in-house project for TNO in collaboration with same generation of PDEng ASD beginning of 2015. Please check out PDF attachment for more information.

TechUnited

For TechUnited, which is a collaboration between Eindhoven University of Technology, Delft University of Technology and a number of companies our trainees contributed to the design and development of software for the next generations of TURTLEs participating in the mid-size league of future European and World Championships Robot Soccer.

Benteler Engineering

BENTELER Engineering offers development services in market segments such as Automotive, Public Transportation, Commercial Vehicles, Shipbuilding, and Industry. With 650 employees located in Europe they create innovative engineering solutions for its customers.

Our trainees of generation C2014 performed an in-house project for Benteler in Q1 of 2015. Please check out PDF attachment for more information.
