At Dutch Design Week 2024, TU/e innovation Space invited the public to experience the University of the Future and see firsthand how education can address society’s grand challenges. Everyone—regardless of age or background—has a role to play in this vision of inclusive, collaborative education. Click to read our blogpost.

On October 2, the opening of an art installation by students from our ISP Art & Tech course took place. It was developed for EAISI by students from last semester, together with Olivier Blom (former Tech Lead of Team IGNITE). The interactive installation visualizes AI calculations that typically occur within the ‘black box’. The installation incorporates an old punch card reader that was once used in the Neuron building. Student team IGNITE revealed its latest work in the Castor residential tower. It concerns an interactive light installation, entitled ‘Flare’, which mimics the sun. “We created Flare especially for all of the international students that miss the sunlight here in the Netherlands,” says IGNITE member Ezra de Graaf. On Thursday, 03 October 2024 we celebrate the work we have done on Sustainability @ TU/e! We create a Sustainability network, we spotlight Sustainability in Education and we discuss ways to move forward the transition with known change agents Mark van Baal, Marjan Minnesma, Isabelle Reymen and Anna Wieczorek. During the TU/e Bachelor Open Day, TU/e innovation Space opens for future students and their parents. While the parents attend our introductory presentation, future engineers can experience CBL Education by participating in our workshop. We also give short tours through the Matrix building. For five days, Eindhoven was the epicenter of robotics innovation at RoboCup 2024. A crowd of 10,000 spectators cheered on 300 teams from 40 countries as they vied for top honors across five competitive leagues. Click to read the full article.

This year, the finale of the TU/e Contest expanded into an open conference. It was an afternoon with lots to do, such as a network market, workshops, unforgettable pitches, an exciting showdown with the Expert Jury, and a festive Award Ceremony. Following the first National Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) Conference in 2023, we are excited to take it to an international level in 2025. During the finale of the TU/e Contest 2023, Wouter Witteman and Tom Huijben blew the audience away with their presentation of the Suweve. Their innovative wheelchair accessory allows people in a wheelchair to be pushed backwards, enabling more in-depth conversations during walks. Since 2018, we run interdisciplinary challenges where students work with businesses. The students develop technological solutions that tackle issues confronting industries and the planet. With the wide range of innovations already achieved through our challenge program, this model of collaboration looks set to only become more widespread in future. We are proud to share the announcement of the launch of BOOST, the development platform that will support student innovation in North Brabant. At TU/e innovation Space, we have witnessed this project come to life, and we are proud of this group of dedicated students whose initiative and commitment have now been recognized by the Provincie Noord-Brabant with this fund.
