ISP innovation through art & design challenges

Speel video

ISP innovation through art & design is one of the three flagship courses TU/e innovation Space offers. This master course focuses on Challenge-Based Learning in interdisciplinary teams of 3 to 5 students, working on challenges with both technological and artistic/design aspects.

Students from all study programs are welcome, even if you think you don’t have any creative or artistic skills.

What is Challenge-Based Learning?

In addition to more theoretical education, TU/e offers Challenge-Based Learning (CBL). At TU/e innovation Space, CBL has the following characteristics:

  • ‘Hands-on learning by doing’ (by making prototypes, you immediately test your idea into practice, gaining additional insights)
  • Entrepreneurial attitude (dealing with uncertainty, overcoming obstacles, feeling responsible)
  • Interdisciplinary (work with students from different departments)
  • Design thinking (creative thinking/ problem solving)
  • Real-world challenges (working on existing open-ended problems)

Key learning points of this course

By learning skills such as abstract, conceptual and speculative thinking, students develop competencies to operate fully as an engineer in the world of tomorrow with challenges we can’t yet imagine. In addition, in this course they:

  • reflect on existing knowledge and competencies

  • approach technological (societal) opportunities from a fundamentally different perspective through art methodology

  • learn to collaborate with other disciplines

  • define their own learning goals

Inspiring community

The course is not based on lectures, but on studio-style group work, self-study and personal and team development.

It includes workshops, guest lectures and visits/guided tours to design studios, museums and art galleries, festivals and other venues that may be relevant to the projects. Working outside the Matrix building where TU/e innovation Space is located, turns ISP innovation through art & design into an inspiring community.
