Borrowing from the famous dictum by Frank Stella, 'What you see is what yousee,' this installation seeks to mock up the optical effects, figural relationships, and illusions found in Wallpaper as devices that alter our perception ofthe environments around us. Extending the dual relationship between art, architecture, and mass consumption, Big Will is an installation and stage forperformance that aims to exploit the perception of space and three dimensionalforms. Reshaping the room through the surfaces around us. The pavilion, affectionately named Big Will, is nearly a Shotgun House.Consisting of three rooms arranged linearly it is an occupiable two dimensionalenvironment that conflates Wallpaper with the Wall (Wall as Paper). Built byapplying paint to scrim, the repetition of the William Morris 'Thistle' Wallpaperbecomes a decorative effect that visually compounds from one wall to many.Producing new environments through the visual overlap of flat surfaces thatshift and change over time and space.
