Social Inclusion and Physical Rehabilitation
We design interactive products and services that enhance social inclusion and physical rehabilitation, reintegration and wellbeing. Our students design for elderly care, physical rehabilitation and child care. Through design and research, clinical expertise is combined with technological developments and design solutions. The projects in this squad range from conceptual design to designing embodied objects and object behaviors.
Student: Frederique de Jongh
Children diagnosed with clubfeet (‘klompvoet’) need to wear a brace day and night for up to 3 years in order to cure the condition. During the treatment, the brace causes physical and emotional strain. This project focused on increasing compliance by the children on non-verbal level in order to make sure the treatment is as effective as possible

Hypotonia is a state of low muscle tone often involving reduced muscle strength. This shoe aims to improve the action of pushing off from the ground so the larger, more commonly used brace is no longer needed.
