We propose a technological solution as our intervention strategy to support the elderly population and maintain their independence. Moreover, we envision a solution for improving social connectedness, discuss our plans for research and determine its applicability within the elderly market. As it relates, to unconscious signals for elderly bonding and care, our design proposition, the Social Hue is based on the modality of light and consequently will be used to facilitate connectedness between the elderly and their caregivers through the Philips Hue Light. Furthermore, this bidirectional application, Social Hue shall remotely serve as a trigger to inform caregivers of their daily activities within the elderly home and vice versa and will be rendered unconsciously through different light forms.
