Kati Brock started as a doctoral candidate at the ITEM group in November 2014. Prior to that she received her MSc. (cum laude) in Innovation Management in 2014 and her BSc. in Industrial Design in 2010 from the TU Eindhoven. Her PhD thesis focuses on "Business model innovation for smart cities", which is conducted in cooperation with Philips Research and the Intelligent Lighting Institute (ILI). The thesis will look more closely at how an incumbent company within the public lighting industry can innovate its business model to be successful in the emerging smart city market. As a PhD student, Kati is supervised by prof.dr. Fred Langerak (TU/e), dr. Ksenia Podoynitsyna (TU/e), Elke den Ouden (TU/e & ILI) and ir. Dennis van de Meulenhof (Philips Research). Among her research interests are business model innovation, incumbents, organizational learning, microfoundations, ecosystems, analogical reasoning and strategic management.
