Fred Langerak is full (tenured) professor of Product Development & Management in the Innovation, Technology Entrepreneurship & Marketing (ITEM) group of the School of Industrial Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology. He currently serves as chairman of the ITEM group as he did between 2010 and 2014. His research, educational and valorization activities focus on means for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the process of conceiving, designing, developing and bringing new products to market, and managing the product post-launch. It addresses both the strategic planning and executional part of new product development in both established firms and new ventures.

Fred serves as editorial board member, since 2004, of the Journal of Product Innovation Management, which is the leading academic journal devoted to the latest research, theory, and practice in new product and service development. In 2005 he co-founded the Dutch chapter of the Product Development & Management Association (PDMA) and acted as board member until 2012. He was ranked number 18 (out of 1718) in the 2012 list of the world’s most active innovation management scholars and has been nominated and/or awarded the best teacher award for his master course on Management of Product Development in 2010, 2012 and 2016. He also served as co-chair for the 2014 PDMA's Annual Research Forum in Denver, which is the premier conference for discourse on new product development and innovation research worldwide. In 2015 he received the prestigious best reviewer award for his dedicated service to the Journal of Product Innovation Management and in 2017, as co-author, he received the renowned Christer Karlsson Best Paper Award at the International Product Development Management Conference held in Reykjavik.  

Besides his product innovation related activities Fred is member of the editorial board of the Dutch journals M&O, Tijdschrift voor Management en Organisatie and Holland Management Review, and also member of the scientific advisory board of the Dutch Marketing Institute (NIMA). He also served on the executive board of Beta Research School of Operations Management and Logistics between 2013 and 2016.
