Rob Basten is an associate professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He has been there since 2014, first as an assistant professor. His research focusses on after sales service for capital goods: maintenance policies and maintenance optimisation, spare parts inventory control, and design of after sales service supply chains. He is further active in behavioral operations management. The research is typically performed in cooperation with industry. Rob received his Master's degrees in Industrial Engineering and Management in 2004 and in Computer Science in 2005, both from the University of Twente (UT). In 2010, he received his PhD degree in Operations Research from the same university. After graduating, Rob became a postdoc at the TU/e, and a little later he also became a part-time consultant at Gordian Logistic Experts, before going back full-time to the UT in 2011. Rob has been a visiting scholar at the University of Texas at Austin in 2008 and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2014. He has acted as a reviewer for journals such as Management Science, Operations Research, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Reliabilty Engineering & System Safety and Naval Research Logistics.
