Research profile

Rebecca was born on the 5th of January 1984 in the town of Kabale, in Southwestern Uganda (East Africa). She graduated from Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in 2006 with a Bachelors in Business Administration (Accounting). Rebecca was retained as an academic staff at the Faculty of Commerce in MUBS since November 2006 till today. In September 2008, she enrolled in a double degree program at the University of Groningen in The Netherlands and Uppsala University in Sweden where, in 2010, she obtained an MSc in International Business and Management specializing in International Financial Management and an MSc in Economics and Business respectively. Rebecca's Master's research centered around understanding the behavioral aspects affecting Ugandan small and medium enterprise owners in tax compliance. In 2013, she joined the Human-Technology Interaction department at TU/e as a Ph.D. candidate and her work is focused on the role cognitive resources play in mobile financial services use.

In the period November 2014 - April 2017, Rebecca was part of the research team undertaking the project Changing the mindset of Ugandan Entrepreneurs - From Muppets to Gazelles, which was funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research. Under this project, Rebecca investigated the effect of skills on mobile money adoption among entrepreneurs within rural areas, carried out usability tests of mobile financial services and research on the effects of social networks in the acquisition of mobile money skills. This research, however, is still ongoing.
