Luuk is an assistant professor in public transport and city logistics. He received his PhD in Business Processes, Logistics & Information Systems in November 2014 at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. He holds a BSc and MSc degree in Econometrics and Management Science from Erasmus University Rotterdam. As an assistant professor Luuk focuses on sustainable transportation. By improving public transport systems and schedules, his aim is to make public transport a more attractive and sustainable alternative of car transportation. If more people chose to make use of public transportation modes it will have an positive effect on the environment with less CO2 emission and congestion. A further reduction of CO2 emissions and congestion within cities can be achieved by having more efficient city logistics. Too many trucks transport just air since they are not fully loaded. If the capacity of trucks is not completely utilized, more trucks than necessary run into the city center. Transportation companies should join forces in reducing the number of not fully loaded trucks.
